When I had this issue and looked up on Google I found so many discussions saying that it’s a hardware issue that I starting thinking about giving Sony a call about the Vaio laptop I got a month ago about why would hovering my mouse above my battery icon in the system tray show the message “80% available (plugged in not charging)”. Image below clarifies what I am saying.
I wasn’t even able to find any answer on Microsoft discussions as well. Well guys here is the solution:
There is nothing wrong with your hardware !!!
This is a feature I found out on my Windows 7 running on Sony VAIO called as Battery Care which lets users specify what should be the maximum level to which the battery should be charge. This is done to increase the battery life. This feature is accessed by going to the VAIO Control panel (which is different than the Windows Control Panel). I believe that since many people having laptops from other brands (Dell, Toshiba, etc) are also having this issue then either there is a special panel that they have to find out that lets them do the configuration I show below or it is done for them by the vendor itself and there is no screen that lets them do that.
Please do post your responses if your have the same problem and it gets resolved by a similar panel provided by your hardware vendor. Remember your response can help someone save a lot of confusion and frustration. Good luck everyone !
Following is the help on the optimizing Battery use and Battery Care Feature.
I'm pretty sure this is the reason why my battery doesn't charge all the way either, but I was wondering if there was another way to fix it. After installing Windows 7 on my laptop I didn't install all the Sony crap cuse I could tell it was slowing down my computer. So my question is if there is another way around this? Once that sony virus is installed it's impossible to get off.
ReplyDeletethanx alot i didnet think anyhting fix this problem saved me alot of cash
ReplyDeleteTo the first poster, my answer would be to find out what is causing the slowdown. There are tons of ways to diagnose the reason behind the slowness of a system. In general it could be due to some crappy software, some problematic hardware, but generally it would most often be due to the fact that the the general maintenance that is required on the system is overdue. This can include, cleaning out temporary/not-needed files to free up disk space or running disk-defragmentation on the drive, cleaning registry, etc.
ReplyDeleteGreat explanation of the problem.

ReplyDeleteThanks a ton! Just want to know though; is it possible that its stops charging even at I dunno, 60-ish%???? right now it stopped at 80% though...
